I want to start this and say that I absolutely love the Spydiechef. I received mine 2 weeks ago from a warranty credit due to an issue on a different knife. I'm noticing a couple things....

first, I have a lanyard tube rattle that won't go away. Does anyone else have this issue? Why did they even include a lanyard tube to begin with? This bothers me the most, especially on a $200 knife

Second, I have up and down lock rock. It clicks when I check it, but no side to side. Is this an issue worth worrying about? Does it need to wear a bit to become more solid? I notice that when I grip the handle there is no play, but clearly that's what should happen on a frame lock.

I have talked with warranty and they said they could take a look at it. Kind of disappointing that I send one knife in.... find out it's an issue with the entire run, choose another knife only to be met with more issues. I have been purchasing spydercos for about 7 years now and this unfortunate back to back warranty issues has me concerned as I have NEVER had to call warranty before.

what should I do?

Send it in. Sounds like something off tolerance contributing to both issues. I have mine in my pocket right now and no rock, no rattle.

Mine rattled when brand new. I ended up taking the lanyard sleeve out completely. I don’t use a lanyard, and IMO it looks better and less cluttered without having the lanyard sleeve between the standoff’s.

As far as up and down rock, mine is solid as a vault. I would probably send it in if it was me.

Hey pop sickle. I had a chef a while ago and had the same issues.

As far as the tube rattle goes, I think removing it is a solid idea. It doesn’t hurt it’s function even if you’re a lanyard guy. I’m not even sure why they included one is the first place.

Mine also had some lock rock. What I found after a lot of inspection is kind of hard to explain but I’ll try:

Basically, when I applied force in the up and down direction it was kind of a clicking or a popping. This wasn’t the lock not engaging properly, but instead it was the arm of the framelock itself moving back and forth, meaning like from the spine side of the knife to the edge of the blade, if that makes sense. So like my blade was able to push the lock not side to side, but front to back. When I held the knife in my hand it wouldn’t happen because I was holding the lock in place.

I don’t think that this is a huge problem, and I doubt that it would make the lock ever fail. That being said, I’m super anal about my knives and it drove me crazy so I sent it in.

I had a great warranty experience and the knife was returned to me very quickly, free of charge and with absolutely solid lockup. It’s a bummer having to send in a knife, by spyderco turns them around quickly and I think it’s worth it to make such a great knife perfect.

Let us know how things work out!

I had lanyard tube rattle on both my Spydiechef and Advocate - I don't think this is an uncommon issue. I took some blue loctite on the end of a toothpick and placed a bit around the tube on the inside of the knife. Rattle is gone and hasn't returned.

I also had a bit of blade play on my Spydiechef when closed. After disassembly/cleaning/reassembly the issue was gone.
