Spydies and blade centering

Hey all, quick question about blade centering. I currently have a manix that is slightly off center and I also have one in the mail from a trade that is also a little off. That doesn't necessarily bother me, neither one rubs or anything. The only thing that makes me nervous is it getting worse.

Part of me thinks that, as long as I don't mess around with the pivot, a knife will stay as centered or off center as it is. I can't think of why centering would get worse.

Another part of me is nervous that it'll get worse, haha.

Any thoughts?

dont worry about it.

it can be adjusted easily when it needs to be. doesnt sound like it needs it now. so use it and ignore the obsession of blade centering.

I bet after some use and after all the parts have 'settled in' the centering will be better. Little variances in the way the knives are put together can account for a lot of centering issues IME.

Cool. Thanks everyone. Like I said, none of it is egregious and it doesn't really bother me. In fact, having a knife slightly imperfect like that almost makes it feel more like mine.

When I see an off center blade, for some reason, I think "well, if it's off center now it's bound to get worse" but I'm trying to realize that this isn't the case. The only reason an off center blade would bother me is if it just gets worse. I feel better now [emoji1417]

it's great

Oh totally! I absolutely agree. I want to be clear that, of all the spydies that I currently own or have owned, centering is almost always superb! I didn't mean, at all, to suggest that Spydercos tend to have bad centering or anything. I just happen to have one manix and have another one come that are very, very slightly off center. This is not to say that this is a problem or typical or anything like that [emoji1417]

I don't know the last time I got one that was very off center. I think Spyderco is getting better and better.

I bought my P'kal off center consciously at a brick and mortar since it was perfect in all other ways and I trust Spyderco. The grind is sweeeeet. It didn't touch the scale and it's never moved in three years. As a waved knife it opens hard every time so if it was going to move it would have done it by now.

My Cruwear Manix was a touch off centre out of the box. I left it as is until I had to take it apart to clean off a tiny rust spot after lending to a friend for a couple months to get him turned on to Spyderco, ( it of course worked and he has a PM2 and a clipitool). Anyways after cleaning her up and reassembling it was perfectly centred! I'm assuming that it's nagging at you since you opened this thread. If I were you I would loosen the body screws a little, slide the scales until it's centred and tighten her down. That's likely all it will take.

Pretty much every one of the Spydies I've owned have been off center.

Has that ever bothered me? Hell no.

Has that ever affected how well they cut? Also hell no.

All of my Taichung Spydies are perfectly centered. My US/Japanese/Chinese one's vary to some degree. Non of them rub the liner, so it doesn't bother me that much.
