I don't know much so my honour as a knifenut was put to the test when a friend of mine told me she had a fancy for some spyderco knives inlaid with blue turquiise and lapis (?) by a Mr. Riccitelli on her visits west.

I do not know where to begin in my search for info and am prepared to do a search but woudl liek some info on places to begin.. I am sure there are a lot of semi custom handle jobs out there but are there any liscenced by spyderco?

i have seen some in the local mall by semi custom makers and know that recupero has done some jobs - as well as a Mr.Yellowhorse (?) anyone have any info on these knives especially in the blue santa fe inpired design.. thanks guys

I've got two Police models, one by David Yellowhorse and the other by Santa Fe Stoneworks. The Yellowhorse defintely has some turqouise by I don't think the Santa Fe does. IIRC Yellowhorse did several hundred knives for Spyderco before he moved on to Buck and later to United Cutlery. They are fairly rare and quite collectible. In addition to the Police, I believe there were Copilots, Workers and possibly Hunters done, Although I am not positive about the last one. If they are indeed Yellowhorse knives at a reasonable price I'd snap them up.

Would Frank Recupero be source of custom handles for your friends Spyderco? He does great wood and some stone modifications to standard folders. Lapis and turquise are listed in his avaialble stones.

I don't know if this will help but if your looking for a spidie civie then your out of luck. However, being a knife maker as a hobby, I can tell you that making the inlay out of turq or wood or any material for that matter is rather easy and if you have an artistic eye you can make it way better looking than what a lot of so call custom knife makers do. If you want to know how to do it, let me know the material will probably cost you about 15 dollars and some basic hand tools and lots of time. I have a a few civie that which range from wood to turq and I even have one with a demacuss handle. That thing looks hella mean.

Those Riccitellis looks refreshingly different. In a good way. Purty...

I thought you could get these many places still with a variety of different scales. Are they discontinued?

Or are they just very difficult to customize? I am quite curious.
