Square Nails. What steel?

I have a few old square nails and would like to incorporate them into a knife somehow. Guard? They are kinda small. Maybe forge weld some together. Suggestions.

You just gave me a pleasant memory of an old colleague ( long deceased) .
He was a PHD chemist and a genius in the lab. At night he went into his garage and brazed cut nails together to make fantastic cross sculptures for church walls. Some weighed hundreds of pounds and were composed of thousands of nails. He had kegs of nails in many sizes sitting around the walls.
