It is finally feeling like fall around here. The leaves are changing, and the temps are dropping.

Today was a gorgeous day, and I just had to take my boy out for a little woods time.

We call it "hunting" but only because I take a rifle : ) We actually sound like a heard of buffalo coming through the woods. But, it is all fun.

Where we went today was beautiful oak, hickory, maple and beech woods. Rolling hills with some fun trails.

Here is my boy on our first hot chocolate break.

New toy. Wish I had this for the Adirondacks!

You will be hearing more about this one soon.

The highest point in the area was called "Pinnacle Point" on the map. We had to go see what it was all about.

We even saw some squirrels! At first, we just saw a bunch of red squirrels. I usually just leave them alone. Then, our hunting turned into a "hike" and we actually covered quite a bit of ground.

After spending all that time, and almost being late for dinner, we spot a grey squirrel. We try to wait him out, but just didn't have the time. Plus, there are still tons of leaves, making visibility tough.

That just means that we will have to go do it again.

Days like today are just great! I have not been getting near enough of them in the past few months. That and the fact that I want to be spending more time with the kids, and learning other "skills" I have been ignoring is the reason I am not going to be making knives for sale anymore. It is time for me to be going back to being a woods bum : )

Hope you like the pics,
B

Not to hijack anything, On a side note...I have been really enjoying your bushcrafter lately..its a fine blade.

That's great.

Neat for the son learning from his dad,

and neat for the Dad learning from his son.

(little lesson for early on..."As long as it's safe, it doesn't have to be perfect.") Trust me, the more you are comrades, the less emphasis you need put on being the Teacher. That'll come in time.

Not making knives any more !!!!!!!!:(:thumbdn:

I understand exactly where ya coming from buddy but I had hoped one of these days to be in a position to place an order for one of your works of art !!!!!

Looks like ya had a great day out with ya kid, IMO it's the best time of the year right now ! Wish I could loan ya Snicker for getting them squirrels !:D

Looks like fun Brian. Great pictures and a nice day for it!

Unfortunate about the knife making as your work goes head to head with the best of the blades in that camp challenge. However, I also understand the demands of a full time professional job like you have and a family too. I can see how a pile of orders can suck away any free time you might find. You can always take up the trade when things slow down for you again.

Good news for me is that I got a buddy that lives close by who will have a little more free time on his hands :D

Nothing like spending time with your favorite "huntin Buddy".. Just makes things that more enjoyable...:)

Great way to spend quality time with your kid. I notice he has his own psk? Would you mind sharing the contents? Oh, and I really like that Kifaru. :o

Looks like a good time, seems like he enjoys being outdoors. What blade is he carrying?

It is a bark river classic lite hunter. Neat little knife. He has 4 or so he trades around depending on how he feels :D

That is actually my compass in a case. I made him navigate back. I usually do let him have a little kit with whistle and such. But, he was never far from my side on this trip.
