I need to snare squirrels as they exit the hole they have created in the soffit under my roof. I sounds like a family of 8 living in the wall. Wife is freaked, and wants them gone. I can repair the hole, but I need to make sure I get them all out first.

Sounds familiar, the little b*stards did exactly the same thing to me. I hammered a bunch of finishing nails around the entrance forming a little cone pointed out, so they could get out, but not back in.

u sure they are not rats? rats did that to me once...

smoke them out... or try efahl's suggestion... take pics and let us know what happened...

make sure the family doesnt include really young ones. youll catch the momma, the young ones will die in your walls and stink like hell.

Set some rat traps using the tip mentioned in a recent post where ya screw a thin pointy screw through the bottom of the trap so it pokes through near where the spring comes down so it will pin the squirrell ensuring there is no chance of escape !

Can you access the attic in that area? Why not live trap them with a small trap? And no I'm not a squirrel lover, bbq the little tree rats after if you want, just seems like the cleanest way to get them out without risking a half dead squirrel getting himself stuck down a wall.

You could try burning them out, or a 12 gauge with #6 shot. Either one would work, just make sure the dog house is comfortable though:)

Just had the same problem. Got the momma in a tree in the back yard.......got two of the little ones over the next 24 hrs as they were coming out for water I assume. Never saw the last two little ones but nothing stank so I guess they left.

The reading I did said that traps in the attic just don't work. I don't have any of the links left but the best method seemed to be a one way door out (through their natural entry point) into a cage that won't let them back in. When the cage is full, empty it out as you see fit.

If you do a little searching online you can find some ideas.

Good luck, it's a real pain in the rear.

Thanks for the ideas. I am looking to do a noose type snare. The hole is in the corner of a soffit, near a gable in the roof line. This is a point where the interior is vaulted, so there is no attic space. Last year we had a bee infestation in the opposite corner.

You could try a braided steel noose or series of them in a row, I had some last fall that I got rid of for good a month ago, Filled half my damn wall with nuts. These were the little red squirrels. I ended up pullling apart part of the inside wall as it just didnt sound hollow as it should and smelled musty. I thought there was leak somewhere but it was stuffed with nuts, little dried boletes, little alder cones and on the bottom was earwigs and two adult squirrels which left the premises of their own accord.

These critters are just as destructive as rats and will pack in garbage to nest with much like an packrat. I had one do some serious damage on my boat canvas and eventually caught him with an jump trap.

I hate mice! I hate rats! I hate squirrels! I hate all manner of rodents!

Good luck catching this beast.
