My new Squirt PS4 is a replacement for my broken, and now discontinued, Squirt P4, which I EDC'd and used for years with no trouble. I finally broke the pliers on the old P4 when attempting to pull out a tent stake that was pounded into a frozen tree root. It was my fault for abusing the little tool and I explained it to Leatherman when asking them to repair it for me. They replaced the tool with the new model at no charge. Their customer service is obviously very good. :-)

Anyway, the PS4 uses a lever-type scissor spring instead of the leaf-style spring like a SAK. I used to curse the SAK leaf springs, but after having broken the levered spring on the PS4, I'm thinking it would be nice if it WAS a leaf spring and I could simply pop in a spare (I keep spares on hand for my SAKs).

I guess I'll have to ship it across the country to Oregon and wait for it to come back, putting my Leatherman Style PS on replacement duty for now.

Stay sharp,

I've had the PS4's scissor spring break before. It's annoying, yes, but in fairness it was gone for about a week since they sent back a new tool right after they received the broken one.

My 20 year old Swisschamp took years before the SAK scissors spring broke, a few minutes to replace it and still on that one. OTOH, the LT lever spring has been reported to break early and often. I'm glad the company is good about replacing them, but I would prefer a more reliable tool to begin with. Or am I being overly concerned?
