Sr-1 Aluminum Custom Anodizing

Hi all!

This is my first post here on Blade Forums.

Anyway, I'm placing an order for an SR-1 Aluminum tomorrow morning and I'm pretty torn on what color handle to pick.

I'd like something truly unique and was just wondering if the handle tolerances would allow for a custom anodizing job.

Does anyone have experience with this?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I run a small-scale anodizing shop that specializes in small parts like knife handles for 7+ years now. If the handle is already anodized I can strip and re-anodize it for a cheap price. I do multicolor and acid wash finishes if you want a true one of a kind handle. I'm located in Florida and my site is http://zanodize.com Sorry if I'm breaking any forum rules by posting this. Any questions don't hesitate to ask me.

Thanks for the reply.

Finding someone to anodize it isn't the issue though.

I mainly need to know if the tolerances are so tight that aftermarket anodizing might cause trouble, i.e. screw threads.

I'm also curious as to whether or not anodizing the handle would void any sort of warranty.

I think it would probably void the warranty because sand blast and anodizing both would cause the object size become a hair little bit smaller(thinner, shorter.. ect.)
Its not a problem when it happens on a normal two slab construction folder if you don't touch the pillars, but I'm not sure about the integral handle like SR-1.
I guess its no problem if you only did it one or two times due to the soft teflon washers that might self-adjust in SR-1, but over three times I'm very sure that you would get some tiny play.
This is just my conjecture.

if you just need it to be re-anodized it won't take enough off to mess up any tolerances. Most all color anodizing is done around 0.001 inch or 1 MIL and half of that is in the actual aluminum itself, so when you strip the part you are roughly removing .5 MILs of aluminum which is barely anything. So for tolerance issues I wouldn't be worried unless they have been re-anodized multiple times.

MaxFactor: do not worry for waranty, I will keep it open. I am curious to see how it will be.. :-)

Great! Thanks for the input fellas.

I should say, I actually didn't end up ordering the SR-1 this week. Ordered an Edge Pro Apex kit instead to give my current blades some love.

I'm still planning on getting my hands on one and getting it anodized. I'll definitely post up pics once it's all finished.
