SR-1 is amazing

The more I hold and fondle, and of course cut with it, the more I find the SR-1 to be an amazing knife!:thumbup:

The one piece handle of titanium just floors me as to how Lion Steel got the framelock bent enough to give this knife the solid lockup it has. The first thing people say when they see and then hold this knife is that they love the maching on the handle. When I ask them to spot something that makes it different from other knives, it's rare that they recognize the one piece frame. Of course these are nonknife people. But then when I explain how it is cut from a solid block of titanium they are suitably impressed!:D

The blade has to be one of, if not the sharpest, knife I've ever received from the manufacturer. The barest misstep will get you a "bite" from it. With the flat ground blade it is really a nice slicer. I also like the thick stock it is ground from (.187") for the strength it gives the blade. I wouldn't mind seeing more of this Sleipner steel in other models.

As far as the steel insert, and the Roto Lock goes, I love them!

I currently have the SR-1 V, but I want to add the SR-1 B to the mix. Might have be my Christmas present from me to me. Afterall, I have been a good boy this year.;):)

I've seen a couple other posts that talked about their SR-1 coming very dull. Again though, my SR-1 will pop the hair off and send it flying!

Yeah I just got my SR1 a couple of weeks ago and I love it too. Mine was not sharp at all though. Would not even cut normal paper. I am pretty gutted as I am not confident sharpening knives myself.
But apart from that I do think they are one of the best production folders around.
Please let me know which version you have, aluminum or titanium handle. It is very strange becouse SR-1 has a convex edge..

It is titanium and to be honest I think I have learned where I was going wrong. I have since learned that it was the angle of the cut I was making that was making it apear dull.
I feel pretty stupid now as when I make the correct angle cut, it is super sharp:foot:
In my defence it is the only convex edge knife that I own. All my other knives have a more toothy edge and seem to bite into material more, but are by no means sharper.
I am sorry for presenting wrong facts and I will make sure I do more research in future before posting on here.:o:o:o
But on the bright side it was (and still is) my favorite folder even when I thought it was dull.
So thank you for this amazing knife and im sorry again for any wrong facts I have presented.
Regards,
Shaun.

Hey Shaun, glad you got it worked out!

Thanks man:)

It is strange as when I make a cut diagonal (from top left to bottom right) down a piece of paper it tears every time. But if I cut say across the paper like a horizontal direction fron left to right it slices great and is super smooth. So it was not fair to come on here and claim it was dull.

@cutter17

Could you answer a question please?

On your SR1's pivot, does it have a torx fitting on both sides?

I just bought my first Lionsteel, a blue titanium SR-1 and haven't brought myself to knock the new off it yet. I'm sure that day is coming soon..... :D

Alright, another SR-1 owner. You have to try that convex edge out on some cutting chore to see how well it cuts. You can also clean the titanium with Windex to get back the original anodized color, blue, well actually it is violet.

Nice pics with the small Sebenza. I just love the width of the blade on the SR-1!

Just sent my ti out for bead blasting for better grip but otherwise knife was awesome.

I'm excited to get my SR-1, I should have it within 1 week from now. I'm getting the Gray Ti/Black blade from BHQ.

Posted this in the General Forum, but thought I would mention it here also. I'm interested in the Chad Nichols stainless Raindrop Damascus SR-1. I love the look of that particular damascus, but wondered how it compared in general with "regular" stainless steels. Is it an all show no go steel, and if not, then how well does it sharpen, how long the edge holding is, just things that we compare one stainless steel to another. Thanks for any insights

The lock with it's steel reinforced insert along with the lock down disc give it a rugged business like look.
