Had one delivered yesterday and boy was it unimpressive out of the box. Terribly gritty action, I took it apart and deburred everything and the action is the usual cold steel now. There were youtube reports that the blade touches the spring when closed, this is true as well as the back end of the lockbar I believe. But the spots are so small you almost need a magnifier to see them. I think one possibly two stroppings would forever fix that. Having the liners recessed in the scales leaves the scales and blade with little to no room between them, so any side impacts makes the knife clack, not a big deal. I would not recommend this knife to a first time CS buyer or to someone that refuses to work on a new knife. Its not as refined as a voyager, and I dig it.

A couple of details I didn't mention is the curved area on the tang where the lock bar resides when the blade is closed has a shot peened finish of some kind instead of having a ground finish and to my surprise the SR is glassy smooth when riding over the detent. Also the knife is much different in construction details that make it a lot easier to make different scales if you wanted. If you look around you can get one for $42 shipped so its almost a no brainer

I do NOT get the sr-1 when you can have a voyager. Recon 1 is about double the price voyager about the same. Appears GSM wants to make more and more folders of the same approximate size. Side note: the spartan serrated is available.

The SR1 has a much thicker, more robust blade than the Voyager. Voyager is more towards self defense/tactical, whereas the SR1 is more of a hard use knife.

I have used Voyagers harder than any videos out there. I have broken and chipped blades. NEVER had any issue with locks or handles. The Voyager, large, fits my hand great, as does the AD-10. The SR-1 has a straighter handle which I find not as good to hold onto. The SR-1 LITE is also 6.9 ounces while a large voyager is 4.7 ounces. If I needed a harder use folder than a Voyager, there is the 4 Max Scout. Maybe we should try a SR-1 and a 4 Max Scout with a six inch blades???

I agree Gator about the large voyager, I'd put one up against the SR. my only two voyagers are XLs. Im liking the SR, my boss saw me using it today said " don't let anyone see it" I almost got the scout instead, but I don't like the reach to the thumb studs and having to pay twice the price to deal with that. I think the SR is a handsome knife but I think the scout beats is out a little in the looks department. The SR is my dependable buddy now.
