Thought I heard talk of Spyderco doing the Lion Steel SR-1. I wouls love to get one and hope they make a smaller model than the original!

Sal answered the last thread about it and said that they were going to make up a Spyderco version of it. He didn't mention size but said that if it were to go into production it would be made by Lionsteel but with the Spyderco name. But no one knows if a knife will make it past the prototype phase and into production so it is just a guessing game at this point.

Hope that helps some.

Edit: I have one of the SR-1 and I would say I would be very surprised if the Spyderco version ended up being a monolithic Ti framelock with the rotoblock and replaceable lock tip like the original. If it is it will probably be as expensive as the original and be a limited run. It is a great knife and if you like it I say go ahead and get one as I am sure you could sell it easily. For the price it has many features beyond any other Ti framelock out there. I say get it or you could be waiting years if a Spyderco version ever appears and even then it might be hard to get as I'm sure pre-orders will sell out quickly.

Thanks ! How do you like it ?? I asked Lions Steel to hold one for me if they ever made a smaller one. Not too large? I heard talk that because it goes deep in the pocket( location of the clip) too much. I wish I had a chance to buy the first batch. Just got too expensive now.

I really like it. The size doesn't bother me but I like bigger knives. It has a 3.5" blade and the handle is about 4 3/4" which I don't think is that big. The Military is too big but not the SR-1. It is a little heavy (199 grams) but I don't notice it in my pocket and in the hand I don't care. If you like deep carry pocket clips then the clip is fine. I think the main complaint about them is that the knife is hard to get out of your pocket but I don't have that problem. I really like it and it has some cool, unique features and it is the nicest knife I have ever had. Even now it is about the price of a large Sebenza and you get a lot more for your money IMO.

Sounds nice. I live in south Florida also. maybe I might just get one. It is the size of a large sebbie?? For the money, a lot better. it wouldbe just as nice, even better, than a Locsha I think with all its features.

I don't have a large Sebenza to compare it to but it is probably close to the same length.

I went to Blade and I actually got to see some top secret pics of the current Spycerco/ SR-1 design and I am very impressed. I don't know what they will end up costing but it will be very similar to the Lionsteel SR-1. I don't know what kind of steel Spyderco would spec on it but I was told that there is a good chance it will be titanium and have all the same features. Some S90V or M4 would be great in this big beefy folder. But I would not mind at all if it kept the current Sleipner tool steel. In my use so far it seems to hold an edge better than 59-60 HRC M4 steel which is pretty impressive. I really like these hard tool steels that are becoming more common as they perform great for me. Not only do they sharpen easier than softer steels that like to burr, but they hold an edge and I haven't had any signs of chipping or edge rolling.

Since I am talking about Lionsteel I have to add that they have some very cool designs and features going on. They have a lock that looks like an AXIS lock but it is a modified lock back and the part you pull back actually locks the lockback lock bar in place in both the opened and closed position. They are capable of some very cool stuff.
