SR-101 + Permablue

I was just going to ask that. Take it outside! Looks like a beautiful day where you are.
 
Here's a couple. You can see come cool color variation under bright light... I'd take it outside but there's a locum nurse boarding upstairs and she might call the cops!

Yeah the birchwood-casey stuff. I just scrubbed the blade good with a toothbrush and dish soap under the hottest water and dried it with a paper towel. Then I poured on the bluing directly and distributed it with my finger and let it sit for 5 minutes or so. I went and read the MSDS and used gloves when I did the 2nd application. :o It was actually more even before the 2nd app.
 
looks good BUT don't use cold-blued knives to cut food apparently it's toxic even after cleaning, there was a post about this recently

I'm not taking that as gospel just yet. Until someone can show some proof as to why a cold-blued knife is "toxic" after bluing and cleaning, I'm not buying it. That recent post had nothing but here-say and no proof.
 
Permablue has copper(II) sulfate, seleneous acid and nitric acid, all of which are toxic. But yeah, i doubt you'd ever get enough of anything off of a blued blade to ever get sick. Might taste bad though!
 
I understand that any cold bluing solution is quite toxic. That doesn't necessarily make the blued blade toxic. If you've scrubbed the blade after bluing (especially if you've used steel wool), and then cleaned it well wtih soap and water, there shouldn't be any issue (or off flavors).
 
Update: I added a couple coats of renaissance wax. Water now cannot touch it, but approaches it asymptotically. It now repels and reflects hard gamma rays, will not become radioactive on neutron bombardment, and is perfectly transparent to solar neutrinos. It cannot be detected by radar and gives me +4 against evil dragons. It is now only moderately dangerous when carving Pastrami.

Hmm, this is true... ok, +4 kajillion and instant death on most saplings and all moderately sized logs..
