Hey folks, I'm a knife junkie, have a bunch of different steels from different makers. I have never used sr101 though . The new limited edition ratweiler caught my eye. It's a little under 3/16 so it would be good for backpacking as its not overly heavy for the size. What I'm wondering -does sr101 take a patina well, like 01
Or 1095? All my 01 blades have a good patina built up , helps alot with rust.

That's a tough one to answer since there's no typical amout of time a particular model will be available for purchase. Only Jerry Busse can answer that one.

SR-101 is 52100 with Jerry's heat treatment. It is a carbon steel so it will take a patina.
Ratweiler LE will probably be available for 'two weeks' (in Busse world a synonym for nobody really knows).
If you wait for 'two weeks' ;) coated version of Ratweiler will be up for purchase as well. :D

what's the price going to be like for the cg version?

And "CG" stands for "Coated G?" I'm so dense I've not been able to figure out the what the "G" stands for?. LE is Limited Edition I got that. The g???

Oh!! I would have never figured that out. I've tore their website apart looking for that acronym. Thanks!

So combat grade implies having a coated (no shine) blade surface then - correct?

IORC, CG version is supposed to be 3/16.
LE would be slightly thinner as some of the steel has to come off for even satin finish.
