Hey guys, just a few questions(again) ;)

I'm placing my rmd le order in the next few days, and I was curious on the level of rust resistance on SR-101. Can anyone comment?

if you leave it wet, it will rust. no problem other than cutting something wet and putting it back in the sheath. are you going to carry it? use it?

i baby my knives though.

rust quickly if left wet. cleans up easily but I believe it takes a better edge than most of my other knives

How are you placing a RMD LE order "in the next few days"? The LE sale has been closed for awhile now.

SR-101 will rust with any real use and if you don't wipe off anything acidic quickly.

I had put in the preorder before it fell, and I'm just now paying for my order since it wasn't ready. :P But I planned on carrying it camping, and maybe EDC if I can figure out a way for that. I may just save her though, not sure yet.

SR101 will take a mean edge and hold it. It takes on a patina quickly when used for food prep (I usually force one for rust protection.) As everyone said, it can't be rode hard and put away wet...

The leaf springs that are on the back of my truck are rusted, have flexed literally millions of times under constant load, and are still fine after 17 years. If it rusts, clean it up...or don't, and just keep the edge clean/dry so it'll stay sharp longer. I'm not advocating rust, mind you, just saying that it's not as "OH MY GOD!!!!" serious as many make it out to be, unless you're looking for a safe queen, in which case---what are you worried about? Most decent safes have dehumidifiers. :)

SR-101 rusts quickly. I've had my Scrapyard 711 develop a tiny bit of rust on the edge before I can even wipe it dry after washing it with soap and water.
However, it doesn't rust deep. I've cut wet vegetation and resheathed it then taken it out to clean at the end of the day. It had rust, but the rust easily wiped off with a scotchbrite pad.
IMO it doesn't rust any worse than 1095 and is a bit more rust resistant than 5160. For a user the benefits of toughness and edge holding are worth the tradeoff of rust resistance. If you plan on using it a lot and you live in a place that's hot and humid then getting a coated blade would be a good idea. Not completely necessary, but good.
