SR1 issues

So my girlfriend got me a SR1, knowing I love cold steel knifes. When I got the knife, everything on it seemed great but when i opened it, I could literally hear the blade scrape against the sides of the G-10 handle. Like, there was no space between the blade and the handle near the pivot. On top of that, it also makes it difficult to open, making me use more force to open and not making it a very smooth motion at all. I tried loosening the pivot to where it wouldnt scrape and open smoothly, but when I did that there was significant blade play. The scarping is so bad you can see scrape mark's on the blade from the handle. So it's either I have a really rough opening knife with great lock up or a knife that opens smoothly but has a ton of blade play. I dont know what to do. I'm gonna call customer services tomorrow and see what they say. Any suggestions?

Send it in. If you try taking it apart you'll probably have additional issues because it uses free floating barrels and easily damaged threads.
Sounds like yours is missing a washer.

Personally, I'd see if your girlfriend can return/swap the knife with the dealer she bought from. I'm coming up on 2 months with their customer service trying to get a replacement part. I was told the part was in stock and to give it 7-10 days.....over 2 weeks ago :(

I've personally experienced and read over and over again on this forum how Cold Steel customer service says they'll send out a part and never does.

What it is going on???

As far as sending in a knife for warranty. I've done that a few times and never had a problem. They can be a bit slower than other companies but they come through.

I went through two tries at the SR1 before I got a good one. The first had the horribly crooked ground lock bar, the second had up and down blade play. I sent the second one into CS and got a flawless replacement. It is an awesome knife when you get a good one. Too bad about the QC issues.

I've also been through the "we'll send you that part for free right away", and then crickets. There was a thread a few years ago where the CS rep on the forum started helping people, myself included.

It's a shame that their customer service seems to have this MO - I just bought 3 Cold Steel knives in less than month and wanted to buy more / rave about them on forums and reviews... but this has given me serious pause with the brand, despite loving my SR1. Was actually going to buy a back-up SR1, but starting to think about an Adamas instead.

I guess we put up with it because Cold Steel offers more value than most as prices have risen across other brands.
I'm not a fan of the Axis lock. Not my cup of tea.
