SR1 Lite vs 4 Max Scout

Both are budget blades and both are huge folders. One review I watched about the SR1 Lite mentioned that there is only about a 1/4 inch of cutting surface on the blade…for example if you cut straight down on a piece of cardboard, it will cut very smoothly for a quarter inch but then will start shredding due to the very thick blade. Does the 4 Max Scout have this same issue? Also the Drop Point shape of 4 Max Scout would lend itself due more diverse cutting tasks…I would think. And 4 Max has steel liners too .
Any Thoughts on which model you would prefer…thanks

Never used the SR1, but the Scout has a fairly high grind. It will slice better than one would think. My personal belief is that the Scout is a better all around folder.

That’s what I meant to say…a higher grind on the 4Max Scout (my ignorance is showing). The Scout almost looks like a monster version of the Clip Point Voyager.

I have and like both, but even though I prefer the AUS 10 steel of the Scout, I carry the SR1 more because it is lighter. I wouldn’t choose either as a first choice slicing knife, although I did use my scout on a rotisserie chicken a while back. It did okay, but not ideal.

I can say the sr feels like a key chain knife compared to the scout. Theres no comparison in size (width) and weight. I think the thing that makes the scout unique is its weight which is also a curse imo. If ease of carry means anything at all to you get the SR. That is all I have to say.

I prefer the straight profile of the SR1, but the higher, thinner grind of the Scout. A thinner bladed SR1 would be great.

Looking at the Scout, I dont see it doing anything I can t do with my Voyager (not including abuse).

I know, but it’s just so obnoxiously huge and keeping in tradition with CS’s “in your face” and “I just don’t give a crap what you think” themes that made the brand famous. I’ve decided to wait patiently and see if the prices crater next year…if that happens, I’ll pick one up.

You can get one for 79.00 now. Check a site in the middle of the country.

I just recently saw it for $71 (before tax)…but thanks for the heads up. I honestly have everything I want from CS except for a Recon 1 (Spearpoint). A 4 Max Scout or any other model would be icing on the cake for me. I want to see if prices drop for the Holidays and also where CS is headed for 2023.

I've picked up a couple of Cold Steels over the past few months with seemingly random, but significant, price drops. One was a Scout. I actually got to the point of passing on some because I was a bit "meh" on a particular knife and was just thinking of buying them because the discount was just that good. If those prices last/return closer to gift-buying season, I may add some more anyway.

The topic is more of ratio, than a straigh-up comparison. Basically, light-weight versus a light-heavy. Depends on your 'carry-threshold'. My Voyager is also; extremely light, and its gets equal 'pocket-time' with the generic Scout. Saw the new-stock version of the Scout for under $70 dollars, and was tempted to jump-in. I've been pondering an Engage.
