SR101 + combat grade care question

Hi guys, bit of a question.

I abused my Ratmandu, unintentionally. For some reason, to protect it from being stolen, I hid one of my RMD's outside in a nook on the house, and promptly forgot about it. That was around 6 years ago? Maybe. The problem was that area got quite hot over the years (it was sitting on the heatsink of my solar panel inverter - don't ask) and that has caused a bit of discolouration of the combat coating on the blade. The paper/micarta handle that was faced down got a little lightened in colour, but that's all. Obviously the edge has surface rust on it too.

The discolouration looks like dust that's been ingrained into the coating. Is there a recommended soap / solvent to clean the coating and micarta handles without damaging them any more than I have already? It's a user, (well it will be again, it's had a long break) I don't need it back to safe queen perfection.

Cheers :)

dude, I usually just scrub with dish soap and maybe a scotch bright at most, then rack dry. Or, you could beat the rust/dirt off.

edit: Actually I do this mostly for Infi. The only difference may be to towel dry the sr101.

Good stuff, thanks guys. Wasn't sure if WD40 or the like would eat the coating, but if it doesn't I'll try the soap and scrubber first, then a bit of WD40 after it. Then bash it through hardwood.

Cheers :)
