I feel kinda guilty for doing this. My Battle Grade Boss Jack really had a pretty amazing finish under the coating but I figured No Regrets and went for it.

These pics are after multiple mustard applications. I think five but I'm not sure. I just kept experimenting til I got it looking pretty good.

Now I just have to clean up around the handles and talon holes and have my buddy sharpen it again.

That's nice looking.
I have some PCB etchant that I might use if I end up stripping my next BG Busse. I am not as artistic as you, so I am looking for a smoother matte grey.

Great job. It will look Fantastic with a polished convex edge.

That looks fantastic! It actually looks similar to the finish David Mosier puts on some of his folders. Great job!

And after a while, or if you decide you dont like it, just sand and repeat lol or sand blast it. I git some 1095 blades i been doing that too. Its good to see it works well on SR101

That looks really nice! How long did you leave the mustard on? Also what kind did you use? I've used Trader Joe's Spicey Brown Mustard ($1.29) but it doesn't look that good

Like I said above, I did multiple apps. The last one was about five hours. It definitely isn't a quick process. The multiple apps let if fill in pretty well.

I used Plochman's mustard.

Here's an early pic. I was using strips of paper towels to see if I could get a cool pattern.

I decided to just start doing stripes. I tried to keep them as straight as I could but it isn't needed. I think a little variation makes it look better.

For those who don't know it's actually the areas without mustard that take the dark patina. So, I alternated each app putting the new stripe of mustard on the already dark patina stripe on the knife.

Also, when you clean it up a lot of it will wash off.
