Sr101 satin finish? High maintenance on a user? Or common sense?

Hi all I really don't have any satin finish Rats with sr101. Is it going to be like a high carbon non coated blade, prone to corrosion more than other steels? Or is it one of those things were common sense ,ie never store wet, wipe down with tuff cloth, etc.

Would it be good for a canoe trip? I love the RMD and think this one would make a perfect camp knife.

I'm looking forward to using this but if it would be better as a collectable I'm ok with that as well.

Thanks guys.:)

I think you will be fine if you take decent care of it.

Thanks thrill, I have coated blades and never really even had corrosion on the exposed edge but a canoe trip were everything gets wet had me wondering.thanks again :)

Almost all of my rats are stripped at this point... I had a real hard time keeping my nekkid sr101 nice and shiny, but even tho it has developed a nice patina over time, I've never had an issue with actual rust (with the exception of putting my m9 up wet and muddy a few times, even that cleaned up quick)

I have a bare RS, m9, rmd standard, rmdx le, nuclear rmd, and warden and will soon be stripping my ruck; all get used outside in the elements and most get taken down to the river on occasion :)

Although, if you're real worried about it losing its value as a collectors piece, it wouldn't be a bad thing to put it up and get a used standard rmd or hrlm and strip that down :)

I prefer satin users. They will develop a natural patina over time or if you want to keep it shiney get some black buffing compound and you can hand buff out any stains.

I've never had a rust problem with my 5160 steel khukuri's, I couldn't even get a patina on them without forcing it. I have a Scrapyard 711 on it's way which I intend to strip eventually (I prefer the satin aesthetic) and I'm hoping I won't regret it. I've heard all sorts of conflicting reports about the rust resistance of SR101.

I wipe down my rats with a marine tuff-cloth once a year and clean them after use and have never had any problems. SR101 will stain, but I think it looks good.

My M9LE (giant RMD) has a nice patina on it, kinda like a dull gray yet still satin. Awesome.

I have a sbr that was used hard before i got it, it has a beautiful patina, which i think gives the blade more character. But it is possible to keep them shiny with some common sense and maintenance like voxhog mentioned
