I used my Chopweiler to split some camphor laurel logs today. One of my favourite users btw. Anyway, the camphor laurel sap makes an awesome patina. Has a similar effect on INFI too, just not as pronounced. I LOVE the look of well used blades...

O-u-t-s-t-a-n-d-i-n-g!

It looks like you may have nicked an artery though. ;)

Wow! I cannot tell you how many times this has happened to me.

It’s not that I thought the Chopweiler was ugly.

It’s not like I ever thought the Chopweiler was not a nice person.

I just was never attracted to the Chopweiler.

Until……..

…….I saw the Chopweiler naked and filthy.

Don’t judge. You thought it too and it had to be said.

Thanks Rob!

It's funny, it's not dirty at all! This is after I cleaned it and put WD40 on it. The dark marks are the patina left by the tree sap. Awesome!

Camphor, is this the same stuff as the medicine? I use it as a antiseptic and it works very well as a insect repellant. :)

G'day Dwayne,

I'm pretty sure it's the same, they extract the oils for medical purposes. My grandma used to tip a bit into a bowl with some boiling water and I'd have to stick my headi in with a tea towl over my head for the fumes. :D That was for a head cold. If you seen/remember Crocodile Dundee, he tipped all of the fellas cocain into a bowl of boiling water and stuck a towel over his head thinking he had a cold. :D An old bush remedie.

They are trying to get rid of the camphor laurels here as they drink a lot of water and can seed all over the place. They make an excellent wood for wood turners. Here's a pic of a coffee tabe a mate made for me out of camphor laurel.
