So bought a Cold Steel SRK in CPM 3V. Got it in and (like most other owners) found that it does NOT fit the factory "Secure-Ex" sheath. The blade geometry in 3V is wider than their SK5 version and you have to fight to get it in and out of the factory sheath, potentially dulling/marring the blade's nice satin finish.
Bought a Buck 119 leather sheath (the burgundy version with the anvil "Buck" logo stamped on it) for it. Took out the plastic liner and the SRK 3V fits *almost* perfectly. Have to apply just a tad of pressure the final 1/8" to get it to seat flush top of sheath opening to bottom of SRK's grip, but after doing it two or three times it goes in smooth. The sheath's wrap-around secure-strap (for lack of better term) fits the handle and the guard perfectly. Side bonus, the Buck 119 sheath holds the knife higher closer to the belt than the Cold Steel's hanging style plastic sheath. Plus the burgundy leather with my SRK's olive green handle looks pretty good.

Guess I got lucky then. Mine fits the Buck 119 sheath very well (not perfect, but as I said - it takes just a slight nudge for the last 1/8" to seat & it gets easier each time). For $15 for a new leather sheath off of eBay I'm happy with it.
On my factory Secure-Ex sheath, not only was the blade sides dragging badly while inserting, the handle is too wide for the mouth of the sheath where it is supposed to go. It's more than just friction; you can see the two halves of the sheath spreading apart at the top significantly as the handle is pushed in all the way.
yep, but hit and miss..we played with this last year.....

pulling out the Buck plastic insert was smart. I'd guess most of the sheaths I tested would have worked without that I'm there taking up room.

many of us dislike the secure ex sheath. mainly the doesn't fit my knife, and the dulling if it does fit. Andrew Demko solved the problems with the secure ex in his take apart cleanable sheath that doesn't have glass fibers in the plastic part where the blade goes. so no dulling.
