SRK Fit in 119 Sheath?

I need a new sheath for my Cold Steel SRK and I'm not keen on the current sheath it comes with from Cold Steel. I don't have a Buck 119 but it looks like at 6", the blades are similar enough that the SRK should fit in a 119 sheath. I'm thinking the standard leather 119 sheath, but I kinda like the look of the Brahma composite sheath, too. Only thing is the SRK is a bit thicker and maybe broader than the 119, but I'm not sure of the latter. What's the scoop on this? Anyone able to try it for me and report back?

i hope someone can actually help you with your precise question but.. have you given the custom sheath makers a look? I think that the nature of the Cold Steel SRK calls for a nice molded sheath! (Kydex or equivalent material). The SRK is such a popular knife that I don't think you wouldn't even need to ship the knife to the maker. Leather is probably goingo to be more expensive.

Great advice!

The knife came from the seller with a molded Kydex sheath. Don't like 'em. Not my style, clumsy to draw, rides too high for me, and eats up the rubber handle on repeated drawing and re-sheathing. I also prefer brown in all my gear. Custom leather just a tad outside my price range and the Buck 119 style is pretty much what I'm looking for. (Although the "Cavalry" model by Patriot Leather is really perfect for me and I've bookmarked that page!)

The SRK is just about a perfect fit. The last 1/4" was a little tight but it snaps in just like the 119 does behind the guard.

Kinda sorta not really for the nylon sheath. I pop an SRK into a short Spec Ops sheath sometimes.

Thanks, folks! I am going to spring for a brown or burgundy 119 sheath in leather. I really appreciate the time it took you to do this for me. And the Kydex sheath I have is now fodder for a giveaway, it seems.

Unless it has been waterproofed with wax or some kind of oil (probably not), you could try wet-forming it for a better fit. Wrap the blade in plastic film and put the knife in the seath, get the sheath wet (submerge it a few minutes) and work the leather with your hands to give it the desired shape. The leather is going to change the color, but if you get all the leather equally wet, you will probably end up with a uniform tone. If you only wet one part of it, you will notice the difference. If you want to give it an even more uniform look, dye it afterwards.

Always good advice from this community. Thanks! When the sheath arrives, I'll report back with pics and stories.

Sheath arrived the other day. Slipped the SRK into it for fitting and found it exactly as Eric@DLT describes: Perfect fit except for the last two to three millimeters. But unlike Mikel_24 suggests, it's not a tightness issue but because the shape of the SRK blade has it bumping into the welt at the bottom. The Buck 119 curves up just enough so that it does not contact the welt there. After a few firm presses into the sheath, the knife has now cut a little divot into the welt: Perfect fit. Less work, hooray! For those doing this, it helps to remove the plastic insert. It's a thin piece of plastic that keeps the 119 tip, which is an upward trailing point, from cutting into upper, non-welt side of the sheath. The basic clipped point of the SRK sits well below the midline of the blade, so the plastic insert isn't needed. The wraparound strap of the 119 sheath is a bit loose on the handle, but it keeps the knife in securely. At some point, I may replace the snap with another so it buckles more tightly, but I'm in no rush.

Now I still have the Kydex sheath it came with. It's an aftermarket sheath, not the factory SRK sheath from Cold Steel, but it is a perfect fit and sits nicely on the hip for those who want that higher-ride feel. I'll post a giveaway in the next couple of days for folks with an SRK that needs new clothes.

Thanks for all who helped out!
