SRK in CPM 3V with improved handle

Changing the steel on the SRK to VG-1 was the steel change that surprised me the most. With the Master Hunter going 3V I was sure the SRK would be upgraded to 3V too. I rather expected a change to BD1 than to VG-1. Though I haven't heard any bad things about the new SRK in VG-1 (once again CSs heat treat seems to be very good) I would still love to see a SRK in CPM 3V. The knife design is classic and very versatile and as it's designed to do some hard work I think it would benefit from a tough steel like 3V.
Another thing I would like to see changed is the handle. The ergonomics are really good and the Kraton is very grippy but it doesn't seem to be an isolated case that the handle might come loose after some time (luckily I haven't experienced that on my SRK yet). So switching to G10 or Micarta would be one option. But as the Kraton handle is a SRK trademark maybe it would be an option to use a Kraton-over-molded polypropylene handle as CS uses it on their outdoorsman lite or tanto lite (I think some other manufacturers use similar techniques). You would still have the grippy Kraton surface but minimize the chance of the handle coming loose.

Would love an SRK in 3V and and not quite clear myself how the other models got 3v and skipped the SRK?

I will go as far as contacting a custom maker to create a knife with SRK dimensions and full tang construction, if necessary.

The dimensions are perfect, but handle material and tang keep me away.

I couldn't agree more with this. I have had an SRK in AUS8a steel for years. For the first 3 years I never touched it. It literally rode in my trunk forgotten as an emergency backup. This past month my son wanted a small bonfire. I remembered the SRK and decided "f&ck it, lets see what this can do." Over the next 3 hours I beat the tar out of the knife; battoning it through ironwood, knots and all. It took it like an absolute champ and was still able to cut printer paper. I threw the knife at trees and the ground without regard. I could not believe how much abuse it took. While the edge finally dulled there were no chips. Even though it performed beyond my expectations, I could only imagine what this knife could really do with a full tang construction, 3v and a micarta or G10 handle. It would probably be my only fixed blade in that configuration.

new vg-1 (at $75 shipped) or san mai 3 vg-1 ($99 shipped)? not sure the advantage to the san mai 3 over straight vg-1.

having a AUSA-8 version, I cannot justify getting the VG-1 version, but if they'd release one in CMP-3V, i'd be all hyped about putting one trough it's pace!

I have the original Carbon V from the early 90's, it's a great steel and knife. I love it. That said, I'd be in the front of the line for one in 3V...

I think what y'all are asking for is something very similar to the AK-47 field knife.
Got the AK-47 field Knife and blade length, geometry.. everything is perfect. The only thing that I don't like that much is the handle with it's deep fingergrooves. I think the handle could also be a bit wider and have a palm swell.

How is it with gloves?

I got thin hands and without gloves the fingergrooves don't fit perfectly. With gloves it's fine. I'd prefer a handle shaped similar to the SRKs handle.
There is a threat about the AK-47 field knife where I wrote something about it and postet some pics

Ah yes, I remember that thread.

Cold Steel has been releasing a lot of knives in CPM 3V recently, including classics like the Master Tanto and Tai Pan (drool). Maybe they'll do something like this, too.
