I need help deciding which to buy. The knife with be used basically in a "camp" setting preparing meals getting kindling for a fire and that type of work. It also will be called upon if need be to be used a a survival tool. My question is should I get a CS SRK or CS Bush Ranger in Carbon V? Either way I will also all most always be carrying a machete. Please reply asap I would like to order on Monday. Thanks.

Hi Gunner, I had one of the SRKs and it seemed to be a very tough knife, sold it a while back, I felt the overall thickness of the blade was too thick, but that's a preference of mine, I like a knife that's able to slice well.
My vote would be for the BushRanger, in that it is flat ground to the top, it might be longer bladed? not sure on that, but I've often thought of getting one of those or the Recon Scout, which is a scaled down version of my TrailMaster.

Good luck on your choice,
G2

SRK if your prime concern is strength for prying and other near-abuse type uses.

Bush Ranger if you're willing to give up some of that prying strength because you're more focused on high performance for cutting.

I agree with Gary and Joe, but feel that the Bush Ranger would perform better. I have an SRK and it is a decent knife. The edge seems a tad thick (as with all CS's), and the hollow grind isnt carried very far up the blade. This makes it a clumsy cutter to me. I would go with the Bush Ranger- as a knifes main purpose is to cut.

I use my bush ranger almost exclusively for camping. a good length for all food prep and it slices and dices very well. Just be sure to rinse and dry the blade thoroughly after each use.

I tried both, and I preferred the SRK. Like it's tuffness and it does make a good pryer if you need one like Joe said...

Joe hit it on the head -- I own both blades. If you have a machete, then get the Bush Ranger. It'll slcie where the machete doesn't, and in a pinch will still chop very well in spite of the light weight of the blade. Might be able to do some minor prying too, but not too much. If your wilderness survival skills are up to par, you most likely won't need a prying tool anyway. Just carry a Leatherman or Swiss Army Knife...

Gary, if the blade of the SRK was too thick for you, the recon scout will just p*ss you off royally! It (and the Trailmaster) are THICK!

Best,

Brian.

The Bush Ranger makes a nice camp knife. Takes a lot of abuse and is easily sharpened.

I've used my bush ranger camping, and it is a great knife. You will not be disappointed if you buy one

Brian, I have the TrailMaster and it's fine, thick spine but flat ground the whole width, which can't be said for the SRK, it's ground up part way and that prevents better slicing.

Both knives are truly great values...try maybe getting both-factory 2nd's of each!!!

if size is a necessity-go bigger with the B.R. My girlfriend left ours up in the mountains of NY somewhere!! Great knife!!!

Brother has SRK...I gave it to him...it is ok...BR is better!

God's choices in inflicicting suffering are unsatisfactory to us, nor are they understandable, unless innocence offends him. Clearly he needs some help in directing the blind fury with which he flogs the earth...

Get both if yoou can,but remember that if you buy the factory seconds they don't have the warenty that the first run knives have at least that is what I read in the special projects catalog. They wont take them back for any reason. so you might want to take that into consideration. I have both and I like them although I haven't used them so take that for what it is worth. But they did meat my expectations. I am a CS fan anyway.I just like their knives.
