Hey guys,

There's some information that a SS ESEE4 is in the making. Any chance of seeing an SS Becker BK2 or BK7 in the line up too?

Cheers!

There already was a stainless 7 called the 77 out of s30v, remoras are alsso stainless 440a I think.

I was thinking like a more affordable regular production knife. The Limited Edition 77 is way beyond what I could afford.

How about D2? Would ya'll like to see some BKT's offered in D2?

I know I would love to have a BKT in D2.

Regarding that D2 tool steel, is that stainless. I was thinking it was a very corrosion resistant carbon steel. Also have heard quite a few folks complaining of chipping with that steel. I think it was Helle knives that was doing it. Don't know if it was the steel or the heat treat that was to blame. But yeah I'd get one, to answer your question.

D2 does not have quite enough chrome in it to be real stainless steel, but it's quite close, and is very rust resistant with a small amount of care.

a D2 tweener with micarta scales would be awesome.
D2 is a stain resistant high carbon steel, not stainless.
The problem Helle had with their D2 scandi was the same problem any high hardness scandi has -- the 24 degree inclusive edge does not handle hard cutting duties well and tends to chip/roll. several companies have had the same problem with sandvik steel when they tweaked the hardness a bit too much. Now if you go with a 24 degree scandi and a 35-40 degree microbevel, that's another story -- and many of the scandinavian knife making companies now put a microbevel on their scandis from the factory.

440 a b or c in a big knife? yuck. this isn't blade emporium ;)

what's ESEE going to charge for that stainless number? purty penny be my guess.

the BK77s when they flew out the door at the special price was something to behold. oh my yes. i think i'm set for life on those now due to circumstances :)

Thank you. I can't stand 440 series steels. You can go to a flea market and pick up a Frost "art" knife with a 12" 440 blade for $10 or $12 bucks, and that's all you need to know about it. I'm a big-time value shopper, like Beckers (of course) and Kershaw, but I don't want nothin' cheap.

For a Becker in stainless, if I'd have had the money for one of those 77s, I wouldn't have hesitated. I love S30V. On the minimum end of the spectrum, it would have to be at least AUS-8 or ATS-34, but preferably at least CPM154 for me.

I have a Kershaw Outcast in D2, and I like it alright. A bitch to sharpen, but that's partly because of a big, sweeping recurve. I haven't had any chipping problems with it, and have not heard any stories that I recall of Outcasts being prone to that kind of thing. I think Kershaw heat treats fairly soft for D2 though, like in the 58 - 59 range if memory serves, and a lot of D2 makers are going quite a bit harder than that. I've found out in the last few days though that the 9 out-performs the Outcast significantly, so at this point I'm not all that impressed with D2.

Anyway, a stainless Becker or three would be music to my eyes, as long as they stayed away from the junk steels.

you get what you pay for :)

Camillus learned, and KaBar profited: nobody wants a stainless steel Becker for what they cost to make. they did not sell. the Remoras are well done, and cute;

quality modern 440 can be okay, but it has too many connotations of being cheap, and it's very much not the ideal steel for a large sharpened prybar.

i don't know the sales numbers, but honestly, i'm just not seeing KaBar or Ethan doing backflips over offering 440, regardless.

just like i'm not going to see my 5160 machax probably either. good steel, they'd have to develop protocols for it, and well, they're busy :) 1095 makes them happy.

Ok 440 turns off some folks...but if anyone can make a great knife out of 440C, I think Becker could. Sorry I am late to the scene and missed the 77, what was it selling for?

440C with a good heat treat is perfectly good steel. I am not really a fan of the super stainless routine. Too much effort to sharpen.
I like carbon steel - 1095, D2, A2, O1, L6 - I don't really get the concern - people act like if you get a carbon knife wet for 10 minutes it will rust in half. I am pretty confident you could put a BK2 in a bucket of salt water for a decade, brush the rust off, oil it and be good to go.

i think it was selling out for $200, and a lot of people bought them. fast. course, some people it seems immediately resold them :)

$200 for a BK77 is a fantastic deal. Kabar Becker should revive it. :)

those were for the Camillus overstock bought at auction... s30v is expensive, and hard to work, and it might not be likely to be seen again.

now, exotic metals in other models, now and again as sprint runs, maybe... but such things cost more than usual, and as evidenced with the BK11 CSM not everyone is thrilled with this. which i find amusing... there are people that will throw down cash they've been hiding from the wife for a $$$$ knive, but balk at $80 for something unique and purdy :)
