The wife just picked these up at the PO this morning - a set of Joshua Roth "Master Grade" SS bonsai tools. I have a few inexpensive ones we use to maintain our plants, but I had never seen anything like these. She has seen some of the new knives in my collection, and her theory is that if she gets some decent tools, I'll take better care of the plants...

I just thought some here might be interested in these because they are SS rather than the carbon steel typically of less expensive tools. And, yes, they arrived razor sharp. I've already done a bit of damage with them. :) For aficionados, this is the Joshua Roth 9906 tool kit.

Looks like well made stuff.

Since there are no knives, off to Gagets & Gear. Good to see another Bastidville resident on BFC. ;)

My wife knows that I have a black thumb.

But the tools do look nice. Tell us how they work out.

Joshua Roth tools should be of near impeccable quality and that looks like a real nice set, looks like it has everything one needs. Jin pliers would make a nice addition though. If I buy a pair new, I'll probably go with the Roth tools.

I haven't used any JR tools yet, just the Fujiyama set I started with and the 5 or 6 Masakuni tools I've picked up used. My favorite of my Masakuni tools is the rake... a hand-forged blue steel root rake and spatula, how cool is that? :D

i used to do bonsais, i just dont have the time lately though, when i did most of my bonsai'ing i used a set of wire cutters and a fork and spoon, no fancy implements lol, the last year or so my wife got me a set of tools, not as nice as the ones in the pic though.
