Hey all, got a Stainless vg-10 USBP delica for christmas from my parents. i was wondering if anyone could give me some information about it? i will have some more pics up tonight.

1. Is this a Sprint Run, a contracted model for the USBP? or just a production delica with factory engraving?
2. Does this hold any collectors value ( safe queen or user?)
3. Why is are all my spyderco's so great?

Our station did special runs with engravers or trophy shops to have the USBP shield put on the blade. Our Moral and Welfare dept did it and they were available to any other Patrol Agent at the station or detailed agents. I'm sure many other stations did similar runs. No collector value.

Until he retired, John F Jensen was a Spyderco distributor who had knives engraved for the Border Patrol and other government agencies. No particular collector value but, on the other hand, not sure I'd want to be carrying a knife with the insignia of a government agency to which I did not belong.

Good information on Jensen. However, I don't believe a knife's markings have much to do with it's use as a EDC. His Border Patrol Delica is not a badge. I don't think anyone has ever got in trouble for carrying a marked "Police" model, for example.

I was only stating my personal feelings, TR. However, you are comparing the generic word "Police" with markings of a specific US Goverment Agency, in this case the Border Patrol, but DEA, FBI, and CIA marked Spydercos also exist. I'd agree the word Police, by itself, would be highly unlikely to cause any misunderstandings. On the other hand, agency markings might make an LEO wonder how someone not connected with that agency came to be in possession of the knife. They might, however mistakenly, assume the markings signified that it was "department issue".

There was a beater SS FBI-marked Delica on the bay a few weeks ago. It was the first such agency-marked Spydie I had seen. I was considering picking it up for a friend who recently graduated from Quantico but it was in pretty bad cosmetic shape from a NKP perspective.

A lot of government agencies have gift shops where the general public can buy merchandise with the agency logo on it. It always seems a bit odd to me, but that hasn't kept me from buying stuff for family and friends.

Even the smallest of LE agencies give away logo'ed items, from coffee mugs to repro badges. None of them get upset seeing these in use by the citizens they are given or sold too.

It's the 'actions' of someone who tries to act like a LE that will get one in hot water.
