i really dont know where else to post this, but i guess it belongs here. my question is how to remove sections out of stainless steel handles so i can get some inserts in a DR typhoon balisong kit. i already ordered a milled handle version, which i plan on removing the middle to put a bigger insert in.

this has been already done by some, notably Murnax on the forums with mother of pearl inserts. he removed the middle with a hacksaw, i bought a dremel, and im wondering what bits would be ideal for this?

also, after this project i plan on getting a regular typhoon kit (plain, unmilled handle) and "milling" or cutting my own design. is this plausible? what could i do this with and could i do it with a dremel? thanks in advance, and any advice and insight at all is appreciated

Files are your best friend. Not for speed mind you, but for the control for finishing. Actually they aren't to slow all by themselves.

you're tellin me to file a design into the handles? i just got a bunch of micro files today and lemme tell you they are a pain in the butt. i dont think its possible with bigger ones to take out to much metal.

I'm familliar with the typhoon, the one I played with is/was up on Golnik's page. The files I was refering to would be a small file that you could find at any hardware store. Small enough to fit where you need it to go, but large enough to remove some metal. The micro files are way too small for what I understand your doing, minature files would work but are also smaller than I would like. If you really want to use a dremmel the stone bits will work, though you have to watch as they change size and shape as they wear. Carbide, HSS, or diamond will all work for what you are doing as well.

k thanks insanity, once i get most of the metal off with the dremel ill find a bigger file.
