Hello my friends and fellows,

I have a very interesting Case Peanut that came from an estate collection. This peanut has hunter green jigged bone scales, scrolled bolsters, and stainless damascus blades in a pattern I have not seen before.

I have heard that Devin Thomas made damascus for Case, but I have also heard that his brother might have supplied them at some point, and to be honest I do not know the history of their damascus contracting. I emailed Devin about a year ago but did not get a response, so I would like to source it to the experts here.

As you can see, it is quite distinct from the raindrop Damascus patterns. From what I can tell, a few other models were put out in 2006 with a very similar pattern.

This one is marked on the box as a Shepherd Hills Exclusive.

I am interested to know if anyone here is familiar with this pattern, what the pattern may be called, and the composition of the steel.

Here is all the information I have in photograph form:

If it turns out not to be SS, I am still interested in the pattern and steel.

Thank you!

I have no idea what steel they used, it will be a mixture of two. Though difficult to tell on these small blades, I would say it is "random" damascus, not a specific pattern as such.
A lovely little knife.

I don't recall Case using stainless damascus, but there are always exceptions. I guess if it develops a patina, it's not stainless :)

I honestly don't have a clue, but since it is marked "Shepherd Hills Exclusive", I might would call them.

I'd be surprised if it's stainless too. It does look like what they call "Random Pattern Damascus" as Wolfgang posted. Meaning there is no name or specific pattern.
I seem to recall that that some of the larger knife manufacturers have used "Alabama Damascus" but I have no knowledge whether Case did.

I see from the end flap of your box that your knife was manufactured in 2006. Although your damascus is not "Raindrop Damascus", it was Devin Thomas that supplied Case with "Raindrop Damascus" in 2006 and in fact it was used on their (Case's) 2006 stag covered Peanut.

This is a description of your knife that I found on a non-BF sponsor dealer.

"Case XX Damascus Hunter Green Peanut Knife. Pattern 6220DAM. 2 7/8" closed length. Genuine Stainless Damascus Steel clip and pen blades. Hunter Green Jigged Bone handles with Nickel Silver bolsters and inlay shield. Limited Edition. Manufactured in 2006."

In a January 31, 2006 Case press release, Case said; "The Damascus steel used by Case this year will be provided by Devin Thomas, a Nevada steel designer chosen by Case because of his reputation for delivering a consistent product."

Don't know if this helps but thought I'd pass it along.

Thanks for the replies! I will continue to do detective work with these clues and report back.

That is a stunning little knife! They need to release a 2016 version of that knife:thumbup:

Thank you everybody. Devin confirmed it is from their shop and it is a random pattern.

They use AEB-L and 302 for stainless and 1095 and nickel for high carbon.

Having had a raindrop pattern peanut with hc thomas damascus, I am pretty confident this is AEB-L and 302.

But time will tell!

I learn something from 90% or more from the threads I read here thanks Ed:thumbup:. Gorgeous knife excellent estate find congrats Triple T.
