hello,i got a double walled mug thatz stainless steel, can you heat this on a open flame?
i put it on a stove for 1 min and it started turning different colors kinda like titanium,i got a little worried so i pulled it off.......

No. A double wall mug is great for keeping a beverage hot, but you will destroy it if you try to use it over a flame. (It would also be pretty inefficient.)

I like a combo of a double-walled mug that nests on a single-walled stainless (or titanium :D) bottle. This allows you to boil water in the bottle and drink warm bevarages from the mug without burning your lips.

I looked and looked locally for a single wall ss mug and I had to go to a large retailer a few cities away to get one .Many of the local places have a nice double wall but I wanted one I could cook/boil in I wondered how it would work to punch holes in the outside layer anyone ever tried that?

I just picked up a usable SS mug at Marshall's for $3. It was the last place I thought I'd find woods gear and it's not as nice as my GSI but it's good enough for me.

I'm assuming there's some sort of insulating foam between the walls so it might not do any good to drill holes in it. I guess if you were willing to melt or dissolve all the foam out of it. Don't double-wall mugs usually have some sort of plastic lip holding the two walls together?

That's the Klondike mug ,right Esav ? I've been using those for years also. Pretty inexpensive ,and they fit on Esbit stoves ,MSR pocket rockets , and whatever. I use one of those stainless steel coasters as a lid when boiling.

I'm waiting on my BCB crusader army mug and cooker right now , and will try that out also. Looks like a good system for boiling with fuel tabs also

Even if there is no other insulation between the double walls other than air, there is a good possibility it would rupture when heated too much. If it is sealed up with no vent, the air will expand and burst it. Could be a bit of a hazard.

Sigg is good stuff. IIRC, they were making some pretty cool plain stainless water bottles right after the BPA debacle. I haven't seen any gear from them in a while but that cup/canteen combo looks pretty sweet.
