How many others here like to carry and/or use the SS-handled spydercos?

I've always looked at them and passed by, until I went to my local brick & mortar to replace my FRN Delica and all they had was the SS version. I had to buy it, since I couldn't leave empty-handed, and it hasn't left my pocket since.

I'm wondering how hard I can use it, lest it develop side-to-side blade play. As far as the up & down blade play that some folks lament in the case of the FRN folders, this knife has none.

Long story short, I overcame my hangup and now I like the SS spydies... Ordered a Police that should get here tomorrow. :)

So... Anybody else a fan?

Peace.

Yes I to am a fan of SS I like the worker serrated, my edc wish I had known the were going to drop the Worker, would have bought another as a spare.

I prefer FRN or G10 handles. The SS ones are too slippery as far as I'm concerned, and the knives are too heavy. They sure look nice, and my impression is that they're at least as tough as the knives with different handle materials, but I still prefer FRN or G10.

That's actually the reason why I didn't get a Navigator 2 so far.

Only SS knife I consistently carry is the Adventura, because the slots provide better grip than the smooth stainless steel.

I've been a fan of SS Spydies since I got a SS Endura. The SS models seem to add a bit of heft for a better grip and they do seem a bit sturdier. The only drawback is that the handles fan be slippery at times. Since that SS Endura, I've gotten a lot of SS models, from the SS Jester to the SS ATR.

I've always been attracted to the plain simplicity of the all steel models with their invisible joints and fasteners. Yes, they are a little heavy but I also like the heft and solid feel. I've got a Police, Endura, Delica, Dragonfly, Calypso Jr., Rookie, Horn 3/4, Copilot, and a Cricket, all in stainless. Love em all, especially the Endura. Gotta get a SS Jester next.

One style that just doesn't lend itself to all steel is the Native, in my opinion. To me, it looks OK but just doesn't feel right.

The few SS handled Spyders I still have are ones I will probably keep. I have an SS Rookie but I would dare use it because of it's rarity. Since I won that one on Ebay last summer I haven't seen one for sale since. I just traded away a stainless, engraved Native that I honestly wish I had back. I didn't realize that there were so few engraved Natives out there.

One of my most valued knives I have is one that "DAYWALKER" traded me which was one of the first knives I ever traded anyone. It is a stainless handled Calypso Jr. with AUS-8. I landed the fully serrated counterpart to it on Ebay last summer and man do they make a beautiful set. I wish they would bring back the stainless Calypso Jr with a better blade steel. That is one stainless I would mind carrying. The stainless VG-10 Harpy is a permanent fixture in my EDC line up.

Spyderco's stainless handled knives are some of the best the market has to offer in SS handles.

All but 3 of my 15 spydies are SS. I like the feel of that solid heft in the hand. When you hold them, you know you have a sturdy knife in your hand that will perform. It is all about personal preference. Not everyone likes the SS feel (slippery when wet and uncomfortable in the cold). Again, its personal preference. Me..........I love the SS.  :)

God Bless:)

I have carried a SS Endura for almost a month and a half now that I recieved as a gift. I am very impressed with it. I had EDC'd an S30V Millie for 2 1/2 years and the Endura quickly knocked it out of my pocket.

Most surprising is the way the "lowly" AUS-6 is taking and holding an edge. In keeping with the season, I have gone through several packages both plastic and cardboard. I have only touched it up once, even then it never dropped below shaving.
(dons Nomex...........) So far, in real world use, "I" haven't seen much difference between it and S30V. (Nomex off.....)

SS...I like 'em.

My favorite EDC is the Stretch, all the ruggedness of an all stainless Spydie, but much better tractionl. Also have an engraved stainless Kiwi that gets carried occasionally.

I just laugh when people complain about a knife being too heavy, then proceed to tell you the 32 other things they have on them for EDC
I carried a SS PE police every day for 11 years. Carried a SS SE police after the first one wore out.
Carry an all stainless everywhere, all day, every day for a week and you won't notice the weight.
Or you could leave your 3rd string knife, second mini-light, magnesium firestarter, and massive keyring at home, and come out weighing than before :D

I love my SS Karambit, although I continue to maintain it as NIB, and with the factory plastic protective covering... (fingers crossed it never falls off).

Overall, the SS Spydie's do have their place within the market, and are successful enough to continue to be manufactured, and sought after by both collectors, and users,.... although collectors tend to favour SS more than users.
Whilst SS is not as grippy as other materials, they are not too slippery in order to be deemed as useless. Similar to CF, it too is smooth, yet is actually fairly grippable, thus functional.

I hope to acquire an Adventura eventually, and whilst I do like the SS handle, I hope to see the Adventura become a success, so as to warrant further models, and hopefully in G10, and maybe even CF.
However I desperately desired for the Karambit to be a success, thus ensuring that it would continue to be produced, and it too be manufactured with G10 scales, yet it was discontinued.

Either way, SS Spydie's will always be cool in some aspects, IMO.

I loves me some stainless steel. Harpy, Police, Caly Jr., Rookie, and a thoroughly abused Pegasus. Love the look, and the feel. Weighty in the palm but not overbearing.

My police has been in hard use for about the last four years and blade play still isn't a problem. A little more than when it was new, but still head and shoulders above most other non-spydies I've carried.

Not until i got my Adventura, now, I wouldnt have it any other way. I think I'll go stainless again, but, its gottta be a pretty special knife like maybe some of alexe's other designs.

14 years carrying the SS Se Police...has a few battle scars but still quite functional. I don't carry it as much anymore, but do carry a Stretch and a Cricket daily. Nothing wrong with SS.

the adventura is my first SS model, and i love the "positive action" while opening/closing it. i dig the slots in the blade for grip, and would like to see simiar on other SS models. i've never been bothered by weight-rather, i am more likely to have an issue with size. the thinness of the adventura is excellent.

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned the Scorpius. It's the only SS Spyderco I own, and probably the only one I'll ever buy UNLESS I can handle a model before purchase (ironically, I live in Denver, but I've only seen two places that carry Spydies [not counting the outlet store]). The erognomics on the Scorpius are superb, but I'd sure like to see one in FRN or even G-10.

For a SS knife, though, the Scorpius provides a great grip AND has a very useful blade profile with lots of belly and a nice big Spyderhole.

Love the SS PE Cricket. Super thin, nice heft and perfect lock-up. My favorite office carry.

I only have 3 in SS....

Stretch, Rookie and Hunter.

Sure, they are slightly heavier and slippery, but it makes no diff to me. The lock-up is tighter on these than on the FRN models.
