SS4 INFI - anyone !!

Excellent knife! I'd highly recommend it to anyone. I'm a fan of the Mudders and they tend to make the knife so lightweight, it's a pleasure to carry. It's also got the great Meaner blade profile with a very useable choil.

Tough-as-nails package.

They're pretty sweet. Pretty much a SYKC version of the Meaner, they have a usable choil and a Mudder handle. It's lighter than a MrSt of the same thickness (SS4= approx. 3/16" at the ricasso) and the handle fits nicely into the hand, especially while wearing gloves... And, of course, it's INFI! :)

I photo'd this one with the intent to sell some time ago... But couldn't bring myself to actually list it. :D

This pic shows the rounded satin finished spine and thickness of the Mudder handle.

SS4 with a few Busse knives. It has approximately the same profile as the Meaner.
(not THIS Leaner Meaner seen under it, as I had this one's profile thinned a bit and resharpened while it was in having the choil added by the BCS.)

It's a Meaner with a bigger choil and mudder handle. I got 2 on the original release and sold them both. It just didn't work for me. Diff'rent Strokes for Diff'rent Folks.

Good knife for the cash. I just never could get used to the mudder handles. I had four of 'em and eventually sold 'em all off.

Here's what one looks like after a little lovin'. The coating has long since been stripped off.

Very very nice knife indeed.
Took this pic when it was new to me. It's a little bit more worn now, although still in
very good shape.

One of my favorite knives.

The combination of INFI and Resiprene–C is excellent. The handles are very comfortable. It's a usable size and shape, light, and tough.

I love the SS4. I bought one for my wife and have been trying to think of ways to get it from her without risking life and limb. ;-)

thanks for the pics - I really like this little knife and think my BWM can take over battoning and big duties and the SS4 & BOSS can be my (when you don't need an INFI cricket bat) go to's.

I the heath treat and everything else the same??

got one in a trade and I'm really looking forward to getting it. Your pics helped, thanks gents

I thought it was going to be my ultimate EDC FB- INFI and Resiprene!!! Unfortunately I don't really care for the Mudder handle, wish it was smooth/plain. Like some of the others, I still haven't brought myself to list it, but it does reside in my trade bag.

If you like the Mudder handles it's really a great knife.

i'm thinking about trading my sjtac (used) for one - what do you all think

I HIGHLY recommend reconsidering selling/trading the SJTAC. Hopefully, you haven't done so already.
IMO, the SJTAC needs the top thumb ramp ground off and then you have a reasonably lightweight, but AWESOME jack of all trades knife. - For when you just want to carry "One". The SJTAC along with the Swamp Rat RMD are both Way high on the "if only one" list.

For when you want a smaller light-weight task knife, the SS4 is much nicer (IMO) than any of the smaller Busse models (such as MS, AD, GW, Boss, etc.) since all of the Busse models have "elf" choils that are not functional and waste functional blade. (my opinion)

The SS4 is INFI with a GREAT blade shape, usable choil and comfortable very user friendly ergos.

Obviously, (like any other handle), the mudders are LOVED by some and not so much by others. No one handle will please everyone. But, Mudders fit and feel very nice in my hands. They are very light-weight and balance the knife very well. But, they are not as nice to look at as certain nice pieces of micarta and similar. While mudders are pretty tough, they still are not as tough as micarta.

If I were dead set on micarta, I would buy a SS4 and have custom micarta handles made for the SS4 (hidden tang) over the Meaner..... , but that is me.
While at it, I would strip, satin finish and convex grind the SS4.... But again, that is me (I have already done so with mine ;) - although, mine still has mudders.)

The SS4 will still be PLENTY strong - the tang design is very good.

The bottom line for me if comparing the SS4 to the Meaner or Boss is the usable choil and smaller guard which allows for a short more natural reach to the choil.

That said, if for "Field", camp, trail use, I find the size and functional use of the S5 and RMD even better.

awesome post - thanks fella. I actually flipped a BATAC for the SS4 & an AS so it's all good. I couldn't bring myself to shift the SJTAC - too useful. I'm looking forward to seeing how the SS4 lives up to my expectations. Meaner is one of my favourite designs so we'll see.

I'll post my thoughts when it hits my letter box !!

Thanks for all your help lads, need to see more user pics though !!
