St. Nicks announced to day they will have a Para 3 with red G10 and DLC with 4V blade steel. I suspect this will sell out immediately. I don't know a ton about 4V. Similar to 3V, with higher edge retention and less toughness? Is this accurate?

The way I understand it 4V is overkill unless you're using high impact applications, am I wrong?

If I'm being honest, most of these tough steels are overkill for me. I like steels like M4, Cruwear, etc not because I need the extra toughness. I just like the edge they take.
If you look at it that way, I totally agree.

Regardless, I'm with Uxo, I don't like DLC so I'll pass.

Especially in a small blade like the Para 3. I mostly go with stainless for my folders, but may give this one a shot for the novelty of it.

According to the charts it still seems to be inferior to Cruwear. But given the different heat treats spyderco has been using (harder steels lately), I could be very wrong. Like when people thought Rex45 was a complete downgrade from M4

DLC on reactive steel, hellz yeah. I’m in. I’m glad many peeps don’t like DLC, more chance of me getting one.

I would of been ok with 3V since it’s a steel I already have in a folder.

Should pair up nicely with a 4v racing chopper. You can pull out your pm3 4v dlc to dice up your protein snacks, and show everyone you're true to your steel! :D

This should've been 440v, no dlc.

I usually avoid coated blades as well but when it's on a rarer steel and an exclusive to boot I can't resist. I almost passed on the River's Edge exclusive and would've been kicking myself if I had.

I'd agree with that. It's about halfway between 3V and M4 on both toughness and hardness. As I don't think anyone is chopping or batoning with a Para 3, M4 would generally be the better way to go.

I'm increasingly excited for this one. Looking forward to Thursday. Hope I can grab one.

For those with experience, how does 4V sharpen? Is it very difficult?
