Hello I am new to this forum but not new to the knife world. I come here humblie to find new information to help me with my passion of knife making.

I know what stabalized wood is but would like to know how one could do this themself and what would be needed in such an endevor.

Any help would be appeciated.

Hello Fish, I've made a few knives over the past few years and I've experimented with a few ways to stabiliize wood on my own and all I can really say is, through what I did with a vacuum pump and pressure chamber it definitely didn't hurt the wood it sure didn't have the effect that a professional stabilizer like wssi will do for it. I know there are several that will disagree with me, but if I was just first thinking about stabilizing my own wood with what I know now, I would save the money I spent on a vacuum pump, and pressure chamber + all the wood hardener I've bought and buy already stabilized wood or send any unstabilized wood to the professionals, there's no comparison. By the way thats what I do now. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks Bill for your reply Not to be ignorant who is WSSi and how do you send the wood to them in large pieces or handle and scale size pieces. I have many exotic and rare boards that I have gathered over the years that I would like to have done.

Thanks guy's I will check them out. You've been very helpful and to learn from people that have gone thru the process is a giant help for sure. I have learned too many things the hard way in my life and it's a joy to have the knowledge from you
