stabalized wood problem?

I have a custom hunter that I dropped  on my floor, and the handle has a small chip in the butt.....The handle is smooth and hard feeling because the wood has been stabalized, but the chipped part is rough and feels like, well what chipped wood should feel like. Should I be worried about this? Is there anything I can do to "cover" the chipped part? Will the wood in the exposed part weather, or weaken over time? By the way, this is a $400 knife:eek:

I can imagine the feeling , but if the knife is one you use often then consider it a 'battle scar' , adding to the character of the knife. :D

If it's a safe queen , then I'd be bummed but , its nothing that cant be fixed if the chip isnt too big.

just sand it down and it will be fine since the wood has been stabilized. you should do the other side to match if possible. if you have access to a buffer just hit the handle to blend it all in.

You can fill in the chip with Superglue or an epoxy and then use a very fine sandpaper to smooth and polish.

You also might want to send the knife back to the maker to have him or her refinish it. The exposed part won't weather premaurely as the wood is stabilized all the way through not just at the surface.

Let’s see if we can find the right forum …

Sorry for posting in the wrong forum. Thanks for the help guys, and Richard, thanks for the e-mail. Tom Krein is going to do a little bit of work on it for me, so it should be "all good". It was going to be a user anyway.
