Yesterday i read the papers about the recent stabbing cases in London. It's really sad, and the authorities are being pressured to put a new policy in place- jail anyone who carries a knife. I decided to post this at Spyderco's forum because Spyderco has been putting in lots of efforts to create a high quality, legal carry knife for people staying in the UK. I really hope that this policy will not be implemented because of few irresponsible youngsters.

Hard to believe that these are the same people who so bravely fought the Nazi's... the British lion should be replaced by a sheep.
From my experience, the average Londoner drinks like a diabetic camel. Mixing alcohol and knives is not the best policy. I lived in London, then visited many times and if I had a $ (or a pound, being there...) for any drunk I have seen (this includes 14-15 year olds out in the street in the 'burbs with BOTTLES of Vodka...in places like Clapham for example...), I'd be a billionaire...

Hahaha, lion... My sides hurt from laughing! They didn't do a thing against the Nazis until their own island came under attack! They were meant to react to any acts of aggression against Poland, they did NOTHING!
When they started doing anything they sent Assies and Kiwies to the slaughter, that's their type of fighting! The biggest bunch of hipocritic uneducated backstabbers there is. They have killed more of their fellow countrymen in the history than eny enemies!
And one of the most violent nations too!

And concerning the post topic: Its unfortunate, but a number of young folk apparently have been stabbed to death due to recent rashes of muggings and attacks. When kids start dying, its liable for emotions to arise and create 'knee-jerk' reactions. I'd compare to what New York soon will be (if its not already). When will society learn, that knives are TOOLS that happen to make great weapons?

Hopefully Australia doesn't turn out to be like England. Fear is the best way to persuade people, after the riots people will be looking solution to stop this from reoccurring the only way to stop crime is to go to the source (fix the economy give people jobs) not by introducing stupid laws that will have little or most likely no effect like the one above.

As an ex-pat Englishman I'll endeavour not to take your uneducated and inaccurate comments personally.
The tragedy of the OP's point is that a couple of isolated incidents involving idiots out of control makes life all the more difficult for the vast majority who are extremely responsible with their edged tools. And at the end of the day, no matter what laws are in place, anyone can grab a knife out of the kitchen and go and do harm to another human being.
I would amend that prediction: Once they ban knives, the criminals will carry them anyway. Over here in the states, except for 3 states it's illegal to carry a handgun without a permit. 99.9999% of illegal shootings are perpetrated by people carrying without a permit. Those criminals sure are great about obeying bans, aren't they?
Might be worth nothing that based on certain estimates, the murder rates of the US and UK almost the same; the only difference is the weapons used.

Criminals will continue to carry knives, illegal guns and any other weapon they choose.
Criminals do not care about laws......Indeed they embrace a situation were their victims are forcibly disarmed by their own government. It makes it easier and safer for them to steal, rob and murder.
So true, i wonder what can law abiding citizens do to protect themselves against the knife/cricket bat/soccer ball welding assaliant.
