Hey everyone. I hopped on here because I figure you guys know best.
I am not a knife maker but have a question many of you may know the answer to. I am wildlife biologist in Virginia. We have a piece of mammoth ivory that i am going to be carving some things into. I am trying to figure out the best way to stabilize it and prevent further checking, etc... Any ideas would be great. Thanks so much.

Hello, I am in Virginia, so feel free to contact me for any help.
Get yourself a Paleobond kit. It has CA resins from thinner than water to thicker than clay. It is used to stabilize bone and ivory. If you are just doing one project, and want to stabilize the carved area, use the cheapest super glue at the dollar store (3tubes for $1) It is just very thin CA.
Email me if you want more help or info.
