New guy here! Im trying some stabilized wood for the first time and dont know much about it! It is still a natural color with some beautiful figure! But I want to darken it up a bit! I have some alchohol based dye and a few different stains, but im not sure if the wood will soak in the color now that it has been pumped full of resin. Any suggestions?

i do not think it will take the color either. you could try but it might come out splotchy or uneven in color. maybe you can find a scrap of it in the trash to test it on.

It should take the color pretty evenly but as you suspect, it will sit on the surface and will wear away with use.

Much less dye will be absorbed now with the resin. Woods usually darken ,natural or artificial light. Your maple will for sure. I'dleave it
as is '

K K.G. Travis You could use potassium permanganate salts (dissolved in water) and soak it. I've had good luck getting stabilized curly maple a little darker with it.

Email me and I can send you a small supply to try. I have more than I'll ever need.
