Stabilized wood for desert use?

My friend is off on a tracking safari to Namibia this Friday (May 6th) and is planning on taking his bushcraft knife with a morticed handle of stabilized spalted maple. Do you think it will survive the dry air? I haven't been able to find anything very conclusive about stabilzed wood and very dry environments. The knife has been in Wales, which is damp, and if it was unstabilized there would be no question in my mind that it would crack.

Can anyone give a fast answer?

Many thanks!!

Mike at WSSI gets about as much acrylic into the wood as possible. If it is going to survive,I think WSSI wood should do the job. That said, remember that humidity is not the only thing to deal with in the desert.Extremes of heat and cold are killers on a precision fit ,too.Spalted maple is by its creation "damaged wood",so the resin fill will help, but there is always a risk with extreme exposure. That is why Micarta, G-10 ,and other synthetic handles are the best choice for rough duty and extreme conditions.
