Stabilizing cracks in ivory?

Is there a way to stabilize minor cracks in ivory knife scales to prevent them from growing? I am looking at a Remington Daddy Barlow but the location of one of the cracks in the ivory worries me a bit. I dislike owning a knife I am afraid to carry so it would ease my mind if I knew it wouldn't be a problem.

Ivory moves. I'm assuming you know the scales are not original, and the knife has been reworked. If the ivory has been on the knife for a year or two, I would consider it stable.
Temperature changes and humidity could still cause it to crack further, though. There isn't much you can do to stabilize it except use superglue on it.

yep,CA.(super glue)several coats.Ivory always checks and cracks.It's not a biggie.It won't hurt to use the knife.

Proper application of superglue is to fill the cracks and sand off the excess, so that the glue is only in the cracks.

thanks all...My concern was the crack running from the butt to towards the pin, I would hate to see a sliver like that come off the scale.

As Bill suggested. Superglue in the cracks, sand smooth after it has set, buff and you will be good as new. I have done this a lot on horn and bone handles and it works great. I actually use LocTite superglue and a matching activator that helps the areas exposed to air set up solid. Works well and I have never had one come apart after. Good Luck.
