I have a block of mesquite heart wood approx 8"x3"x5" that was cut about 20 yrs ago by my father and immediately multiple dipped in poly urethane to keep it from checking and then put away. I'd like to get a knife re-handled and/ or grips for my Python. Should I get this professionally stabilized or is it stable enough for use after this length of time?If it need stabilizing, are there any recommendations as to where I can get this done?--Thanx for your help.--KV

Mesquite is very dense and hard. You could put a sealer on the finished product, but i dont think it needs stabilized.

Mesquite is one of the most stable woods in existence. It's also durable and hard and you shouldn't have to stabilize it. Unless it's on a dive knife, I wouldn't sweat it.
