Stabilizing organic handle material?

Does anyone stabilize their own handle material? A mentor of mine recommended a product called Nelsonite 30B02 that could be used just by soaking the handle material in it. I was looking for some ideas on a small vacuum stabilizing process. Does anyone do their own, or can someone recommend a small volume commercial supplier?

It's much cheaper(if you put any value on your time at all), not to mention safer, let alone better to have it done commercially. The results will be way higher quality than what you will accomplish and it won't risk your health.

http://www.stabilizedwood.com/ Mike will do a good job for you.

Thanks...

I have some moose leg bone that a fellow wants to use on his knife. I'll get with Mr. Mike and see how to get it done.

You have chosen wisely,Grasshoppa!
Let the masters do what the masters do best. Send it to WSSI.
Mike will tell you what to do to prepare it for stabilization.

Rick, Mike said it best but if you just have to play, use something expendable (like Pet Smart Cow Bones), cut a can of Minwax woodsaver 50/50 with Acetone. Put it in a sealed can with something like a steel plate on top of the bone to hold it down....and let it soak for a few weeks.

Take it out and let it dry for a couple of weeks.

It will be stabalized...sort of. Then send the Moose bone off to have it done right.

Ok...OK..if you guys send it to this guy, 1) he must be good at what he does and 2) It ain't worth a try without the proper tools.

Thanks.
