Hey guys new here. I recently made a walnut gripped skinner with moose antler bolsters. Looked great till the pith in the antlers caused them to curl and shrink badly. Friend of mine told me about making a ball jar stabilizing chamber. Need help. I am an auto mechanic so I have a hand help vacuum pump. Also have electric pump for A/C systems. Whats the deal? Can I just take a ball jar and rig a nipple with a valve, suck vacuum and let material sit for 2-3 days. Whats this about pressure chambers. I want simple and dirt cheap. I only need something big enough for a couple of precut slabs at a time. And 2-3 days will not hurt either as I can do them as I am grinding my blades over the course of a few evenings. What is it you use for liquid and where to get it? I am new to this so I do not fully understand other than a vacuum opens the pores in the material and allows the fluid to penetrate through. Am I right. Need help here! Vaquero

Yeah thats what I did . Probaly used the same vacumn pump.
I went to the 2 quart jars so as to have a little room at the top so you don't suck fluid into your pump. Very disastrous.
I use wood hardener by Min-Wax. I also buy some epoxy called rot fix very thin and mix 1\3 cup of that to 3 pints wood hardener. Mixes up fine and adds strength to the wood or horn.

I question IS THE HORN DRY? If it's not vacumn it alone and not in solution until it is If you have any questions email me
