I could use some opinions on the best way to finish a stacked leather handle. Opinions so far have varied (especially with locations). I'd love to get some more options. Thanks.

Don't know how anyone else does it, but when I do a stacked leather handle I always just buff it until it looks polished and then I put a good coat of car wax on it.

I've had good luck using spar varnish except it's too plastic looking. When I get arouund to doing another one I may try Bruce Evans leather recipe. I just won't cook it as hot as the last time.:D

I use epoxy (liberally) between the washers...then after shaping and sanding, I go to a semi-hard buff with beeswax loaded in the buffing wheel. Gives a real honey color and seals it up great too.

I wet leather squars, and compress 7 at a time in a 2 ton press I made. I leave them in the press for a couple of hours befor removeing, Then seperate to dry. After they are dry I soak in supper thin supper glue, and re-stack and re-press. I leave the supper glued block in the press over night.

I then square up the sides on the band saw, drill the tange slot, and install on the knife. After I have everything shaped, I put one more coat of thin supper glue on the leather to make sure all the pores are full. Finish sanding, buff, and put a coat of Renisance wax on the blade and handle.

I have had good luck with this method in wet areas.
