Would someone some pros and cons between the two sheaths? I am attempting to make a decision for an upcoming sheath purchase.

In my experience with both. I prefer a fold over or butterfly sheath.

When the leather gets wet it swells and deforms. I have had a pancake or stacked leather sheath get so loose it wouldnt hold the knife anymore. Even after the leather dried and shrank, the knife was still loose.

With a butterfly sheath it holds the knife much better in wet conditions.
And when it dries it tightens back up around the knife.

But, this is just my opinion. A true leather worker would know more.

It very much depends on the design of the knife. Any hints?

I have to say I prefer stacked leather. My reasoning is it seems more bullet proof. The only down side is it can get thick. You are looking at a edge thickness of a half an inch or more.
Most here I think would tell you a pancake or fold over is what they prefer.

~10.5" total. ~5" blade & has a finger guard. has a pretty healthy handle length on her.

I'm fairly new at sheath making...... but if I were the maker of pants (after seeing your picture), it'd be a stacked sheath with a nice strap around the handle to keep everything secure. My two cents, for what it's worth.

That's what direction I was leaning. Since that is determined should I get a dangler sheath due to the length of the handle? leaning towards a post for the strap.

Agreed, a stacked sheath would compliment it well and show off that wonderful handle material.

A knife of that length would work well in either a low ride or dangler. It depends on your personal preferences honestly. Neither have an advantage over the other at that knife size.

Such a nice looking knife
