That is one sweet looking Bowie Mace!!!

What kind of stag is that?

Beautiful!!!

I like the crown stag and the overall rustic look of this piece. Like Bruce, I'd like to know more about the blade finish. Nice work and thanks for sharing!

I'm not the greatest fan of antiqued finishes but that is great. Nice blade shape and yes, thats a great photo also. Jason.

First let me say thanks for all the compliments!!!:D :D
The stag came from a skull that was found in the woods at my gun club and is dyed with leather dye....It is a nice piece and fits the hand well (right hand anyway)... So, you all want to know about my SECRET blade finish.... I'll let you guys take a couple of guesses before I spill the beans. I will tell you what I used on the copper......Sulpherated Potash...also known as STINK JUICE!!!:barf:
Here is another pic that shows off the guard better.

Nice blade. I have seen a similar finish by soaking a rag in lemon juice, putting it in a plastic bag and letting it sit overnight. Cool.

Finish kinda looks like 3M99 spray glue that has been sprayed then etched and then Acetone off the Glue...Am I close:D

Hey guy's, Thanks again for the great compliments.

Not a lot of you tried to guess the blade finish but one of you got it right.....Nick is the winner:D :D I have been playing around with blade finishes lately. I wanted to age this blade and try and reveal the temper line so I went and got some feric chloride at Radio shack. I tried to find out the process to get a nice temper line but couldn't find the info here (still would like to know how to do that).
So I just went out in the shop and started to mess around with it, I didn't care for the results so I cleaned it up with some scotch bright ant tried again.....after doing this a couple of times and not getting the look I wanted I took the partialy cleaned acid etched blade inside and broke out my special mustard....dabbed some on and let it sit about ten min. washed off...dried...and did another dabbing of mustard let that sit for another 10-15 min. clean that off and oil it up. I think the true secret lies in what kind of mustard you use. :D

Josh,No sheath yet for this one.

IG, Yes we have talked a couple of times.

Blink, I know of a similar method but with using paint instead of glue.

What do some of you guys do for blade finishes? I would love to know.

Again thanks for all the great comments...It's nice to know when someone likes your work.:D
