I know this one appeared in Coop's Blade Show thread, but since it is one I am particularly proud of, I thought I would post it in a stand alone thread with specs.
I started this one several months prior to the show, and finished it only days before. The recurved blade is 10 1/2" of forged 1084 with heavy random rasp texture on the spine and an antique finish.the handle is a really nice piece of elk stag taper with a patterened copper band and rawhide wraps.OAL is 15 1/2".The fittings are deep etched wrought iron, and it is a through tang that has been peen over and also has a wrought iron nail head finial.
The rawhide sheath features a raised back with a textured copper back panel and laced edges. The belt loop also has a copper inlay, and the stag crown concho is overlayed in copper as well.
This was my first attempt at a semi D Guard, and is an idea I've had stuck in my head for a while. Thanks to Jim for a fantastic image, and to Buddy for his help running to and from tables! Also thanks to all forum members who came by my table and saw this one in person. It was my first time ever to display at a show, and I had a blast!!!

Hey John, This is a great picture of the knive but it really does not do it justice. Having seen and handled this piece at Blade, I am still blown away by how cool it is. I seriously should have talked you into letting it come home with me.

This is your best work yet. I know I've said that before but each one gets a notch better.

You did a great job on this piece John, and your entire table was very impressive. I understand that damascus hawk / knife set will be moving to a neighborhood near me, so I look forward to seeing it again.

Nice knife! I love it.

My dad walked by and told me to tell you that you need to work on polishing, your obviously a beginner . Trust me, he doesn't understand, I apologise for him.

Edit- You were at Blade! I can't believe I missed you! :grumpy:

Missed this one at the show, but was glad to meet you. Definately worth a stand alone thread! Wonderful job, enjoy your work.

As Roger has said this

will be part of a larger display after John creates a matching hunter and sheath with display stand. I have cleared the area already where it will be displayed.

Here is John with his Blade 2011 display and holding the knife in question that he is showing in this thread

John is a CKCA member too so CKCA collectors will certainly want to deal with him for any future purchases of this genre. I'm sure looking forward to being able to view and handle this set in person.

John et. al. - That D-guard and sheath was very well done. I carried it from John's table, back to Coop's studio, fooled around with it there some, and back to John's table. So, I got a good long look at it and it was first rate stuff.

Thanks everyone!Stephen, that cracked me up:D:D!!Most people don't understand that it is easy to make a new object look new, but making it look a couple of hundred years old is a different story, and requires a different thought process !

John, you know I love period stuff, and it was great being at and around your table, since I would occasionally park my feet right there, looking at your wonderful pioneer-influenced pieces, next to some neat California pieces at the table next door. We had some neat talks, too. And you sure did hit the brass ring on this one.

Best,

Bob
