Hi guys, I own a case xx peanut in stag that disappeared a little too well in my pocket. Long story short it went through the wash and now it looks chalky and it appears to have swollen. I wasn't aware stag did this in water, having heard it stands up to punishment nicely. What do you suggest to get it back to its former glory? I have though of sanding it back to the liners and then buffing, perhaps after applying tung oil? All thoughts are appreciated.

I have found oiling it well with some mineral oil, then coating it with some caranuba wax and buffing it will make it look better.

You might look for Bill Dishivs i think his name is posts. He always gives good advice and i think i remember a question like yours he responded to.

More likely it was the detergent that did most of the damage, as opposed to the water by itself. Detergents are designed to break down organic matter (making most of the stuff that typically soils/stains our clothing), so it might've attacked the stag a bit.

I don't know what it'll take to fix it, but it's not a bad idea to see if Bill DeShivs chimes in. He might have an idea or two for handling it. Might be worth posting some clear pics of the handles as well, to lend some perspective as to how damaged they are.

Chiming...
DON'T oil the stag. Leave it in the sun or a very warm spot for a couple of days to totally dry the stag. It will probably shrink back.
If not, file/sand it down, buff and use paste wax or neutral shoe polish to seal it.

Ah ok thanks all for your replies, it's pouring down raining where I am and won't let up for another couple of days it seems. I'll do as you say Bill, thanks again.
