stag inlay question

In the picture are two virtually identical knives. Both liner locks both withthe same shape of inlay. On the one knife the inlay is left in its natural curve and therefore projects slightly above the body of the handle, the other has been sanded smooth and flat with the body. I am trying to decide which looks better, both have their good points. What is your opinion. Do you prefer a stag inlay that is completely flush with the handle or do you prefer one that sticks out a bit.
Thanks for the help
Steve

I prefer it to stand proud a little. I would rather it be flush along the edge of the inlay than below. To me the point of Stag is to have that popcorn texture, sanding it flush just doesn't do it justice.

Nice knives, btw.

Ditto what Xander said. Flush where the stag meets the edge of the inlay, but as proud as can be otherwise. As a knife buyer the texture is what draws me to stag. As a novice knife maker I have yet to try stag myself. Good looking knives Steve!

I'd almost always go with the first one. The only reason I say "almost always" is
the certainty that some really gifted maker will make one in the second style that
is really special. But, almost always, the first wins.
