Here's an example of some "home-made" stag jigged bone:
These overlays were cut off the back of a very thick set of stabilized giraffe bone. After I fit them to the folder and sanded them to shape, I noticed they looked a bit too plain. So, I took them back off and did some more work.....
First, I took a propane torch and scorched the surface to get the "antique" gold hilights. Using a Dremel tool and small spherical bit, I cut the grooves in each overlay and then knocked the "fuzzies" off with 320 grit sandpaper.
The next step was to coat the surfaces with a mixture of browish-black paint. After the paint dried, I simply sanded the excess paint off until the stag figure appeared!
